First-rate new facilities in beautiful English countryside near London
St Teresa’s is a successful school for girls situated in 48 acres of parkland in the Surrey Hills. It enjoys excellent road and rail links to London (45 minutes by train), and is midway between Heathrow and Gatwick Airports (30 minutes by road).

Since its establishment as a school in 1928, facilities have been expanded and updated constantly, and now include a magnificent indoor swimming pool complex and a multimillion-pound performing arts centre with a 750-seater theatre and professional standard sound and lighting. The centre also houses a recording studio and a music technology suite.
The Prep School, which first opened its doors in 1953 on a site just over a mile away from the main school, moved into brand-new, purpose-built accommodation on the Senior School site in January 2009. Both the Nursery and Prep School received outstanding inspection reports in 2007, 2008 and again in 2009.

Ranked 12th in the UK in league tables for added value
We welcome girls with a wide range of abilities and were delighted when the Government performance tables in 2006 placed St Teresa’s in 12th position in the country for adding educational value. This is based upon the first-rate results our pupils regularly attain at GCSE and the excellent teaching received here, and we are justifiably proud that this has been
publicly recognised.

In addition, St Teresa’s was ranked 165th in the 2007 and 149th in the 2008 Financial Times ‘Top 1,000 Schools for A-level’ tables. In 2008, 100% of our GCSE candidates secured five or more A*–C passes and we also celebrated a 100% pass rate at A-level, with 85% of those passes being A–C grades. All our girls go on to higher education, securing places at top-ranking universities (including Oxford and Cambridge), and art, drama and music colleges. Such is the strength of our art department and its reputation that Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design regularly offers our girls unconditional places.

Over the past three years, St Teresa’s has produced two winning students (in 2007 and 2008) and one finalist (in 2009) in the annual International Boarder of the Year Awards, which are organised by Metropolis (the publisher of this Guide) and are open to all UK boarding
schools in membership of the Independent Schools Council.

Every girl is valued for her individual contribution
There are over 500 girls at St Teresa’s, including over 90 boarders. The sixth form is 90-strong and has its own dedicated centre on campus, including individual study-bedrooms for boarders. Most Year 11 girls also occupy single rooms, while younger girls share with friends.

Care and respect for each other are paramount, and there is a rare warmth between staff and girls of all ages. We are an inclusive school where everyone counts and is valued, whatever her talents and strengths.Girls are encouraged to explore their capabilities to the full and to discover their own passions. St Teresa’s is a school with a ‘can do’ ethos which provides the level of support and care necessary to stimulate, and ensure that each girl achieves to her maximum and can shine in her chosen area.
