DANCE SUCCESSES ABBOTS BROMLEY SCHOOL FOR GIRLS
 
Dance students at Abbots Bromley School for Girls are celebrating outstanding Royal Academy of Dance examination results. All students who took the Royal Academy of Dance Higher Grade and Vocational examinations were successful in achieving the top mark of Distinction.

Dance students from the school were also successful in achieving excellent A level results enabling Alex Leak from Doveridge to take up her place on the degree course in dance at the Royal Academy of Dance, London. Kyomi Yoko, who left at the end of the Sixth Form in July, has also joined the Classical Ballet Company in Florence, Italy. Lydia Arnoux from Burton on Trent attended the Sadler's Wells summer school where she was awarded the Junior Dance Prize and has been invited to spend a day at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London.

'These near perfect Royal Academy of Dance examination marks come at the end of a very successful year for our dancers. Yet again we have dance students going on to full time employment in classical ballet companies and for the sixth year running we have a student taking a place on  the Royal Academy of Dance degree course. We wish them every success over the years to come.' said Mrs Marianne Alkins, Director of Dance at the school.

SPEECH & DRAMA at ABBOTS BROMLEY SCHOOL FOR GIRLS

The Speech and Drama department at Abbots Bromley School for Girls has started the new term with excellent LAMDA examination results and achievements.

During the summer three students took examinations at the LAMDA external examinations centre in Birmingham; Brogan Kirby and Lois Baker took examinations in Musical Theatre and Pennelope Allman achieved a Distinction for the Bronze Medal Public Speaking. These summer results follow a very successful year of examinations in the seven available LAMDA disciplines offered at the school.

'Our girls enjoy every aspect of their Speech and Drama; this shows in their enthusiasm and also in their examination results. Laura Clare is our first student to achieve the LAMDA Performance Award and will be competing in London later this year. We wish her every success. ' said Mrs Anne-Marie Morrell. Head of Speech and Drama at the school.

Many of the girls at Abbots Bromley School for Girls were also successful in the LAMDA Communication Awards, both in the Introductory and Intermediate Categories. Sophie Buzzard, Amelia Kirby and Yoko Ueno were successful in the Advanced Communication Award, with Yoko achieving a place in the National Competition Final - an award that the school has won for the past 3 years.

 
GCSE SUCCESS AT ABBOTS BROMLEY SCHOOL FOR GIRLS

Students at Abbots Bromley School for Girls have once again achieved excellent GCSE examination results.

The GCSE results published today show a 99% pass rate, with an exceptional 93% of students achieving 5 or more subjects at A*-C The results are well above the national average, they also exceed last year's successes and reflect some spectacular personal achievements at all levels.

'All credit to the girls and their teachers who have given their school much to be proud of here' said Headmistress Trish Woodhouse '20% of the students gained straight A/A* Grades in all their subjects, a spectacular achievement for a school which is unashamedly non-selective; these results once again reflect a positive teaching and learning environment with high expectations and standards. September brings our largest ever Lower Sixth intake and the future's clearly bright for these young women at AB.'

A LEVEL SUCCESS AT ABBOTS BROMLEY SCHOOL FOR GIRLS

Students at Abbots Bromley School for Girls have once again achieved excellent A Level examination results.

The A Level results published today show a 99% pass rate, with 68% achieving the top two grades of  A and B and an exceptional 91% achieving grades A to C. The results are well above the national average, they also exceed last year's successes in the 'top end' Grades achieved and reflect some highly impressive personal achievements at all levels.

Local student Catherine Pettingale secured 3 straight A grades and is off to Cambridge University, where she will be going to read Music and take up her prestigious Organ Scholarship.

'I am thrilled for the girls and trust they are as proud of themselves as their school is of them' said Headmistress Mrs Trish Woodhouse. 'Once again we have come out with an overall average grade of B, a spectacular achievement for a school which is unashamedly non-selective; these results are a fitting testament to a positive teaching and learning environment with high expectations for each and every student to achieve her full potential here'. 'This is a pivotal stage in the careers of these young women and we wish them every success as they pursue their chosen University path.'
 
'AB' will once again be represented at top Universities - including Cambridge, Durham and Leeds by students pursuing a variety of top courses, ranging from Medicine, Accountancy and Finance, Music, Biological Science, Fine Arts, Business, Dance and Law.

NEW SCIENCE LABS

Staff and pupils at Abbots Bromley School for Girls are delighted with their new Science Laboratories.  Assisted by a generous grant from the Wolfson Foundation the labs provide state of the art facilities for Physics and Chemistry. 'The science staff are always keen to keep abreast of developments in science, we feel that the modern and well equipped rooms will reflect the position and importance of science both in the school and the outside world.' Said Mrs Sue Adams, Head of Science

Abbots Bromley School for Girls has a fine reputation for science, supported by excellent results at GCSE and A Level.  After the Sixth Form many girls continue their science studies at university and pursue careers using a variety of sciences and medicine.
On Thursday 13th March Professor Chris King, BSc. MSc. PGCE. from Keele University opened the new science laboratories. Professor King has a national and international reputation in geoscience education and is currently Scientific Director of the Science Learning Centre West Midlands, Director of the Earth Science Education Unit based at Keele University and Vice-Chair of the Earth Science Education Forum for England and Wales.
 'You can aspire to great things in laboratories like these. I have every confidence that they will inspire both staff and students well into the future.' said Professor King

CHOIR SINGS ON BBC RADIO 4

On Monday the Cantoria Choir at Abbots Bromley School for Girls sang in the BBC Radio 4 daily service. Singing in this live broadcast from Manchester has now become a regular event for this senior choir.

'It is always a great pleasure to welcome the choir of Abbots Bromley School for Girls with their music director Colin Walker to Manchester for the BBC Radio 4 'Daily Service' Their singing resonates with such energy and commitment, lifting every service in which they take part.€Â said Simon Vivian Producer, BBC Religion and Ethics.

AN EVENING OF DANCE

Over a hundred dancers of all ages at Abbots Bromley School for Girls performed to packed houses for two evenings of classical and modern dance on the 7th and 8th March. The first part of the performance was a delightful childrens ballet 'Country Tales' Choreographed by Margaret Bull. This was followed by a collection of modern dances using a variety of techniques and styles choreographed by Rebecca Pretty and Margaret Bull. These were performed by recreational dancers and those on the Vocational Dance Course at the school. The final part of the evening was an outstanding  performances of Raymonda Act III by the dancers on the Vocational Dance Course. This was staged by Marianne Alkins

'I am very pleased with this years major dance production, although it came at a very busy time the girls of all ages danced beautifully and obviously enjoyed every minute of each performance'. Said Mrs Marianne Alkins, Director of Dance at the school.

ABBOTS BROMLEY SCHOOL FOR GIRLS CONFIRMATION SERVICE

On the 4th March in the Chapel at Abbots Bromley School for Girls, Abigail Boulton, Jodie Chubb, Sarah Davis, Lucy Hawley, Imogen Newport, Olivia Newport, Suzannah Paget, Rebecca Walker and Eleanor Woodward were confirmed and made their first communion. The Bishop presiding was Andrew, the third bishop of Ebbsfleet, who was acting in his capacity as Assistant Bishop in the diocese of Lichfield.

All of the candidates from the school were in years 7, 8 and 9.

Fr. Peter Green, the school chaplain who prepared the candidates for confirmation said, 'It was a great privilege to prepare these young women for confirmation. They approached the whole process with lively and real questions and they had a wonderful sense of occasion. I think that they have all begun their life of faith with both a spiritual awareness and an openness to what faith has to offer.'

ABBOTS BROMLEY SCHOOL FOR GIRLS CHOIR TOUR TO PARIS

The Senior Choir at Abbots Bromley School for Girls has just returned from a highly successful concert tour to Paris. During the half term holiday the eighty strong choir sang in Notre Dame and The Anglican Church of Paris.  They also had the opportunity to sing at Disneyland.

In between their concerts the girls went shopping in the Boulevard Haussmann area, visited the Eiffel Tower and Louvre museum. They also went on the Bateau Parisien River Cruise.
