Box Hill School common roomBox Hill School is different and in many ways unique

YES we’re a co-educational day and boarding school for 11- to 18-year-olds. YES we have a strong academic, artistic and sporting tradition  that gets amazing results. But the difference at Box Hill School is that success and achievement aren’t just measured in ‘straight A-grades’. Although we should say that the percentage of pupils achieving them is rising all the time! The real difference we offer is in discovering and nurturing the talents and abilities of every student. Whether it’s academically, through sport, on expeditions or from creative expression in music, art and drama, our outstanding pastoral care and personal attention means pupils really do succeed.

A great boarding environment

We offer flexible boarding and no Saturday classes, a great location that’s convenient to central London, Gatwick and Heathrow Airports. We’re a caring community based upon the principles of Kurt Hahn: to learn through practical experience or IDEALS (International understanding, Democracy, Environmental awareness, Adventure, Leadership and Service to community). We are a proud founder member of the Round Square, an international organisation of over 60 schools throughout the world. As Dana Farr, a former Sixth Form student from Zimbabwe looking to enter a top UK university, says: ‘There’s always someone to help with assignments or prep whenever you need it. You make really good friends and the structured day balances work with socialising and other activities. House staff support is invaluable.’

Box Hill School All the Houses at Box Hill School are small and friendly so that students never feel lost or overlooked and different age groups are able to meet and mix. First-time boarders are reassured by the family structure of our Houses and find them easy to settle into. To strengthen the bond between students even further, Houses become teams for School-wide competitions.

International Baccalaureate Diploma in the Sixth Form

For our Sixth Form students we offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, a world-renowned two-year course that universities respect as ‘better preparation based upon independent learning’. Six subjects are taken at different levels to suit the student’s ability: three higher level, three standard level plus the core topics (Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and Creativity, Action, Service). The IB Diploma is itself a positive attitude to learning, encouraging students to ask challenging questions, to critically reflect, to develop research skills and to learn how to learn. Like the IB Organization, Box Hill

School encourages exploration and community service as well as academic achievement, so that students get the most from their time with us.

We help children to succeed in whatever they choose to do, and we were the first school in our area to introduce the IB Diploma Programme.
